It plays everything VLC can (including AV1) whilst being extremely lightweight and in keeping with the macOS UI. VLC on macOS always felt like a sluggish after thought. With Parallels Desktop 17, you can run Windows 11 on Intel-based and M1-based Macs, though an M1 Mac will support only the ARM-based version of Windows 11. Web browser plugin for Mac OS X

Support for NPAPI plugins was removed from all modern web browsers, so VLC's plugin is no longer maintained. The last version is 3.0.4 and can be found here. It will not receive any further updates.
